CourseCareers
About
CourseCareers offers self-paced online courses that train people for entry-level roles, presented as an alternative to expensive multi-year college programs. Its catalogue covers technology sales, medical device sales, IT, accounting, data analytics, human resources, property management, supply chain and construction trades. Each course ends with a proctored final exam and a certificate of completion, and students get a Discord community, free live workshops and optional paid one-on-one coaching. Employers can use a separate CourseCareers platform to browse graduates and request interviews, paying per interview after a free trial, with no placement fees.
CourseCareers’s Story
CourseCareers was founded in 2019 by Troy Buckholdt. After finishing high school in 2017, he taught himself technology sales online and worked his way from a tech sales internship to sales development rep and then account executive, and at 19 he started CourseCareers to change the way people start careers. The company's stated mission is to make education affordable and offer a direct alternative to multi-year college programs. Buckholdt also wrote The Lean Career, a free book on starting a career without college.

TopCloserR Perspective
What we’d expect selling here to look like
CourseCareers sells courses directly to individuals online, and runs a separate self-serve platform where employers sign up free and pay per interview requested. Selling on the employer side implies reaching talent acquisition teams and sales leaders who hire entry-level staff.
What it builds, by career stage
- Breaking in
- For SDRs, BDRs and those aiming for a first sales role, the business implies prospecting hiring managers and recruiters who fill entry-level roles and getting them to try the free employer trial.
- Building
- For account executives and account managers, it implies turning trial employers into repeat users who request interviews across several course tracks.
- Leading
- For sales managers and heads of sales, it implies balancing employer demand with the flow of graduates across courses such as technology sales, IT and the trades.
Where it can take you
The experience transfers to other edtech, recruiting-technology and staffing companies. Employer-side selling also suits roles at HR technology vendors.
